Heating repair in Columbus and Midland, GA

When the house will not warm up, we find out why, whether it is a gas furnace, an electric furnace, or a heat pump, and tell you what it takes to get the heat back before we start.

Signs your heat needs a repair

  • The thermostat calls for heat and the air stays cool
  • The furnace tries to light, then shuts off
  • A burning or electrical smell that lasts past the first run of the season
  • The system runs and runs but the house stays cold
  • Short cycling, on and off every few minutes

Smell gas, or a CO alarm sounds?

Leave the house now, without flipping switches, and call the gas company or 911 from outside. Call us once it is safe.

What we check

  • Thermostat, power, and the safety switches
  • Ignitor, flame sensor, and burners on a gas furnace
  • Heat strips and sequencers on an electric system
  • Blower motor and air filter
  • Venting and the heat exchanger for signs of trouble

Questions about heating repair

Why is my furnace blowing cold air?

Often the thermostat fan is set to On instead of Auto, the filter is clogged, or the furnace is not lighting because of a dirty flame sensor or a failed ignitor.

My heat pump has frost on it. Is that normal?

A little frost in cold weather is normal; the heat pump runs a defrost cycle to clear it. A unit covered in ice, or one that never clears, needs a look.

When should I have the heat checked?

In the fall, before the first cold night. ENERGY STAR recommends a heating check each fall.

Is a burning smell on the first cold day a problem?

Dust burning off the heat exchanger or heat strips is common for the first few minutes of the season. A smell that lasts, or smells electrical, is a reason to turn it off and call.
