AC maintenance and tune-ups in Columbus, GA

A tune-up each spring gets your air conditioner cleaned, checked, and ready before the long Georgia summer, so small problems get caught while they are still small.

When to book a tune-up

  • Every spring, before the first hot week
  • When the system has not been looked at in over a year
  • When cooling feels weaker or the power bill climbs
  • After a season of heavy pollen, dust, or yard work near the outdoor unit

Change the filter in between

Most 1-inch filters need changing every one to three months. In a Georgia summer, with the system running all day, check it monthly.

What a tune-up covers

  • Clean the outdoor coil and clear debris from around the unit
  • Check refrigerant pressures and the temperature drop across the coil
  • Test the capacitor, contactor, and motors
  • Check the electrical connections and tighten what has worked loose
  • Clear the condensate drain and check the safety switch
  • Check the air filter and the thermostat

Questions about AC maintenance and tune‑ups

How often should my AC be serviced?

Once a year for cooling, in spring. ENERGY STAR recommends a cooling check each spring and a heating check each fall. A heat pump does both jobs, so it gets both visits.

Does a tune-up lower my power bill?

A clean coil, a clean filter, and the right refrigerant charge let the system cool with less run time. A system running dirty or low on refrigerant works harder for the same comfort.

How long does a tune-up take?

Usually an hour or two for one system, longer if we find something that needs attention. We tell you what we found before doing anything beyond the tune-up.

Can I clean the outdoor unit myself?

You can keep leaves, grass, and shrubs at least two feet away from it. Cleaning the coil itself takes care so the fins are not bent, which is part of the tune-up.
